Key Stage One

Key Stage One includes Year 1 (age 5 to 6) and Year 2 (age 6-7).

Key Stage 1 classes are situated on our Rampayoh site. Learning on Rampayoh allows children to access the English and Mathematics Curriculum of England and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for all other subjects. Children have specialist teachers for Music, PE, Drama, Digital Education (DE) and Languages. Children receive one term each of Malay, Mandarin and French learning. They also have a thirty minute swimming lesson with qualified coaches at the nearby Panaga Club. We offer a well balanced curriculum with opportunities for children to excel academically and creatively through performances, class assemblies, competitions and themed weeks. Further details on the academic content can be found in the Year Group Curriculum Outline.

Our Facilities and Learning Environment

All classrooms are spacious and bright and equipped with plentiful resources including Interactive white boards. All classes also have large outdoor learning spaces with direct access from the classrooms. Our on-site facilities include:

  • A spacious PE Hall: Used for PE, Assemblies, and whole-school events.
  • Digital Education Lab: Equipped for modern computing and DE lessons.
  • Dance & Drama Studio: Featuring floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
  • Library: A well-resourced space designed to inspire a love of reading
  • Extensive Outdoor Play areas: These are incorporated into the daily learning experiences.

Typically, there are one to two classes per year group, with average sizes ranging from 12 to 20 pupils depending on the year’s total enrolment. This allows us to maintain a strong focus on personalised learning, ensuring every child has the support they need to thrive.

The School Day

  • Staff are on duty from 7:15 am, with the school day beginning at 7:30 am.
  • There are 6 periods in a day.
  • Pupils enjoy a 25-minute morning break and a 50-minute lunch break.
  • Children should bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day as well as a healthy snack and lunch.. As we take sun safety seriously, sun hats are mandatory. We also recommend applying sunscreen and insect repellent before arriving at school.
  • The school day ends at 2:00 pm if students are not participating in CCA’s.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs)

Learning continues beyond the classroom with our extensive Co-Curricular Activities programme, running Monday to Thursday. While we maintain a core selection of popular activities, the timetable varies each term to provide pupils with a broad range of new experiences.

Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school and drink at regular intervals during the day to ensure they stay hydrated. In addition children must wear sun hats. It is recommended that sunscreen and insect repellent are applied at home.

Academic Excellence, Play & Support

We have a strong academic focus on Reading, Writing and Mathematics ensuring that our children have a solid foundation on which to build. Children’s achievement at the end of Keys Stage one is slightly above current UK expectations.

For pupils who require additional assistance, our Inclusion Team provides expert support. This includes helping children who are new to the English language, providing tailored learning interventions, and closely monitoring individual progress.

Play is a strong feature at Rampayoh, to complement the academic focus and teacher-directed learning that takes place. This allows important social skills and oral language development to be catered for, meeting the needs of our student age group.

The extensive playground areas on the Rampayoh site allow children to access a whole host of activities. Our play areas include a large playing field, climbing frames, bike track, sandpits, climbing wall (bouldering) panel, water play, mud kitchens and a den building.

Beyond the Classroom

Learning extends further into our local community where students in each year group work collaboratively to engage in activities that support the local community and broaden our children’s view of how they can become active citizens that contribute positively to their world.
